At the Tate Britain the other day, people were lining up to stand in front of this big concave mirror by Cerith Wyn Evans. It’s one of those pieces of art which is fun and immediate. People were getting a childlike pleasure from the upside down distorted reflections. Its title is fun, too: Inverse Reverse Peverse.

Project Beginnings

During 2011 it became clear that the time had come to review our identity and to develop a completely new website. As well as the technical requirement to create a non-Flash site, we wanted to communicate very clearly who we are, what we do and how we do it. Matt worked with three brilliant people – Michael Thomson, Steve Jones and Jason Smith.

Imaginary Landscape #03

This is another in Matt’s sequence of Imaginary Landscapes, where different locations are assembled to create new, imaginary places. It’s pretty easy to take arresting photos in the Scottish Highlands (if the weather lets you get the camera out). In this work, Matt has been looking for new ways of describing the atmosphere of these amazing places.

Cookery School Logo

Food shows are all the rage these days. Channel 4 wanted to give its new cookery show a strong logo that would endure, and migrate happily from tv to branded products. We looked for bold solution with a simple ‘hook’. As the logo becomes established, the degrees C mark alone will signify the show.

A hot Sunday Thames-side walk from Rotherhithe to Greenwich resulted in a few nice shots. Matt liked the colours and rhythms in this one.

Soundtrack for Highland Bob short film

Matt and his brother Jonathan are in the process of making a short documentary about their father Bob Rudd, and his work as a painter. Matt has started composing music for the documentary. He accompanied his dad to the Scottish Highlands in May 2011, and the music is inspired by his father’s personality and by the incredible landscapes of Scotland.

Rude Stereo EP Covers

Matt just dug out these old record covers, which he designed while at Intro in London. They are for the great reggae label – Blood and Fire. This work led on to single and album cover designs for Primal Scream.
